Virtual Colonoscopy
In conjunction with the EARLY DIAGNOSIS AND SCREENING SERVICE
Welcome to our Early Diagnosis and Screening Service. We are proud to offer you a highly sensitive, advanced screening program for colorectal cancer (cancer of the large intestine). The core of the virtual colonoscopy is the ultrafast Multi-detector Computed Tomography (CT) scanner. This technology is a simple non-invasive device that can provide an accurate examination of the large intestine within minutes. This information is a valuable component of your overall health and complements the physical examination and other laboratory studies performed by your primary care physician.
Early Diagnosis and Screening Service is part of the Diagnostic Radiology Service within the Department of Radiology. Our CT services are performed on state-of-the art FDA approved equipment. A sophisticated computer workstation is used to provide exceptional imaging and reporting capabilities.
Our professional staff is specifically trained to perform virtual colonoscopy. Our team consists of board certified and highly experienced radiologists, specially trained and board certified radiologic technologists and dedicated nurse counselors.
Virtual colonoscopy is a noninvasive procedure, which uses the computed tomography (CT) scanner to make pictures of the colon after it is filled with a moderate amount of air. The pictures are used to graphically reconstruct the colon in a three-dimensional view. It then allows navigation of the human body through computer simulation and allows detection of polyps. On average, your examination should take approximately 15-20 minutes. Computer-assisted two-dimensional and three-dimensional analysis will be performed.
